Seacliff Park Residents Association
Seacliff Mobile Home Park, initially developed as a privately owned mobile home park in 1970 on approximately 12+ acres, converted to a resident-ownership in 1983.
Upon hearing the property was being listed for sale in March 1983, residents organized a purchasing committee. After polling, 96 of 101 homeowners voted in favor of purchasing the Park. The agreed purchase price of the property was $2.2 million.
The purchasing committee decided to use the legal structure of a “general partnership” to buy, own and maintain the Park. The decision was based on the premise that 1) the structure allowed for each Partner/households to have an equal say in major decisions that would effect the Park; but, the day-to-day management of the Park would be responsibility of a resident elected Management Committee of 9 homeowners; and 2) the purchase and creation of the “general partnership” was an expedient method, requiring the assistance of an attorney and avoiding relying on outside consultants. As a result, a mere 3 months passed from the listing of the property until the residents took ownership in June, 1983.
